About Wookey Hole Caves and Papermill

These dazzling show caves offer a glittering experience in floodlit chambers deep underground. This is the spiritual home of the Witch of Wookey, a huge stalagmite associated to the legend that a witch once lived in the caves, and interestingly in excavations of 1912 the skeleton of a woman was found deep in the floor, close to a dagger!

Wookey has recently been transformed to offer visitors an even more mesmerizing experience. There is a whole host of new attractions, the Valley of the Dinosaurs allows you to wander amongst life size models of these extraordinary creatures, whilst in the Fairy Garden you will find yourself surrounded by elves, fairies and dragons. Inside you can enjoy spending time on a pirate ship, or be entertained in the Wizard Theatre which features magic shows and puppets.

There is a children's adventure playground, and a magical mirror maze as well as the lovely old papermill where you can purchase beautiful parchment and other elegant writing materials belonging to yester-year. In the dramatic, centuries old caves, visitors have a breathtaking experience of music, light, shade, water and colour as you pass between the Witches Kitchen and Parlour, the scenically beautiful Cathedral Chamber and the caves known as Hyena's Den, Badger Hole and Rhinoceros Hole.

Heavy with atmosphere, Wookey is a wonderful tourist attraction, amongst its joys is a Victorian seaside arcade and an informative cave museum.

Open all the year round, the caves offer a unique experience for everyone, especially during the Christmas season when each weekend from the 25th November, there is a magical presentation of "Santaland" featuring the largest Christmas grotto in Somerset.

A cafe is open for refreshments and there is a shop for souvenirs.
